The Rivers Run
by Becky Thurman, Geoff Thurman
Time flows down like a river of black
And a river of white into a sea of red
And I see red as the battle’s begun
I am watching the rivers run
I’ve been seeing the sights go by me
I’ve been looking at illogical things
There doesn’t seem to be rhyme or reason
To possibly explain what’s been happening
Time is wasting for the small solution
Because life is fragile then it fades away
I am not able to reform the future
But something has to be done today
I want to step into significance
Because man never makes a monument
To represent a casual critic
They don’t fashion a hardened face to stone
Time flows down like a river of black
And a river of white into a sea of red
And I see red as the battle’s begun
I am watching the rivers run
Gazing at a population mingled with madness
Watching what the brothers use in waging war
Feeling the afflicted strike stones against their enemies
While some simply ignore what they’re fighting for
Why do I hide the hope that I hold inside me
Like a beggar clings to a crumb of bread
Will I do more than pray for peace
The chaos leaves a soul that must be fed
I want to step into significance
Because man never makes a monument
To represent a casual critic
They don’t fashion a hardened face to stone
